Frequently Asked Questions About Auto Accident Injuries
We receive a number of commonly asked questions about auto accident injuries on a regular basis, so our chiropractic team has taken the time to compile some of these questions and answers in one convenient place for your reference.
What are the most common auto accident injuries you see and treat?
There are numerous specific injuries that can occur during an auto accident, but there are a few that we tend to see more than others in our office. By far, the most common injury we see is known as whiplash, which occurs when the soft tissues around the spine are damaged, usually due to the spine being thrown forward at the time of vehicle impact. The most common symptoms of whiplash, including neck pain and stiffness, migraines, shoulder, back pain, and soft tissue damage often don’t arise until a day or two after the accident.
Herniated and slipped discs are also quite common as a result of car accidents. With this type of injury, one or more of the fluid-filled discs found between the vertebrae become forced out of place by the impact of the accident. This can be incredibly painful, often resulting in very sharp and centralized pain along the spinal column.
How can chiropractic care help treat auto accident injuries?
Chiropractic care is ideal for treating car accident injuries such as whiplash and herniated/bulging discs because these treatment techniques are holistic, drug-free, and non-invasive. We offer a wide range of treatment options in our office that focus on relieving your pain at its very source, including spinal adjustment, electrical muscle stim, and neuromuscular therapy. All of our treatment plans are custom-tailored to suit each patient’s unique needs.
Insurance regulations vary between states. Florida has a 14-day rule for PIP insurance claims. This means an injured individual must seek medical care within 14 days of their accident. If you don’t see a doctor within 14 days, you will only get 25% of the possible benefits.
Not seeking care can negatively affect you down the road. For example, untreated whiplash can result in chronic neck pain. However, if you haven’t sought initial treatment within the 14-day window, insurance will no longer cover this. Taking swift action now can potentially save you thousands of dollars in the future.
